∇ About the collective
We make instruments that outlive the budget that funded them.
Environmental sensing is mostly a closed business: proprietary stations, expensive maintenance contracts, and data behind paywalls. We thought a small group could do better.
Field Station is a collective of hardware engineers, ecologists and field technicians designing sensors that are cheap to make, easy to repair, and impossible to lock down. Every schematic, every line of firmware, every CAD file is public from the day it's tested.
We fund the work three ways: selling assembled units to people who'd rather not solder, modest grants from conservation orgs, and a sponsored-station program where a third party can put their name on a station they pay to deploy. We don't sell the data. We never will.
